What equipment will I need?
Whether it's skype piano lessons or FaceTime piano tuition, the following should be helpful.
Besides having access to a reasonable piano or digital keyboard, you will need 1) a good internet connection 2) a reasonable PC/laptop/MacBook/iPad etc with an audio connection and 3) ideally, a webcam.
You will need to download an online platform. For skype go to www.skype.com and download for free. You will need to create a skype account; this is free for the basic use of skype. . FaceTime will be a similar process, although if you are apple-orientated you will probably be up and running with FaceTime already.
During lessons other members of your household can help by not going online when you are on skype: depending on the quality of your internet connection, it can interfere with the quality of the lesson.
Since March 2020 I have been teaching using FaceTime as well as Skype although FaceTime in my opinion is not as good: you cannot record instantly as you can with Skype: on Skype this recording is immediately available to the pupil.
Please note that when teaching children online I insist that a responsible adult is present in the room for the whole duration of the lesson. The younger the child, the more likely it is that an adult (not the child) would take a written record of work set for the following lesson.
